Day 7 is a mystery but the 8th was a most important day. A circus of logistical bedlam unraveled all day. Highlights follow.
PAYMENT FOR NEW ENGINE
Many phone calls leads to 1 hour phone call for a wire transfer.
The hope was to get a receipt before Janet and Amos arrive in Sidney. That did not happen. Also you don’t get receipts for these.
My credit union suggested I show them a screen shot of my bank account before and after….Alas Tradewinds is trusting.
USE OF DOCK & CRANE AT NEPTUNE ICE
Confirm an early and flexible arrival to the well used dock.
Stay at the dock much longer than planned so we can enjoy an early dinner with Janet and Amos ft. feelings of comradery, Desi, stories of Amos’ sailing misadventures, and new books – one each!
TRANSPORT KARMA TO THE FISH DOCK
SV Manna offers to change work meetings around to be a back up dink during the ebb tide.
We go early instead so recruit fellow sailor and anchorage neighbor Max whose tug boat skills come in handy during a fast approach thanks to current.
NEW ENGINE ARRIVAL
Janet and Amos retrieve new engine from Steve at Tradewinds Boat Recylcing in Sidney and pack their roadtrip goings ons around it.
Small delay upon retrieval.
They experience dreaded construction traffic along the way to Ucluelet.
2qm OUT – 2GM IN
Neptune Ice was alright with our flexible operation time; they get the traffic sitch since they transport many fish to Vancouver via the road (singular yes).
Engine fork lifted out of car within minutes of arrival.
Crystal gracefully plucks the massive 2qm from Karma and cranes in a tiny engine.
KARMA TO LARSON’S DOCK
A full dock leads us to stay at the fish dock longer but another fish boat coming in soon should have us rather moving off it.
Once a spot opens up, the big current and the small space have us nervous to dink push Karma so we run ferry lines and pull Karma over.

After all that, we excitedly dry fit the new engine and found that the mounting points are too narrow for our current stringers. Alas tomorrow’s deal.
